FOUR

A universe with four dimensions of space, worked out: what its light does, what its atoms are, which molecule is its water, and how they hold together. It's computed wherever it can be, with solvers written for any dimension, and every solver is checked first on our own world, where the answers are known.

The periodic table · 78 elements

  • Every element to 78, as the solver finds it, in rows of 2, 10, 10, 28 and 28, with our own table beside it.
  • 54 do what one of ours does and take its name, a letter on: iydrogen, darbon, pxygen. 24 are new, among them the two either side of darbon.

Fields · charges and magnets in 4D

  • Point charges look exactly like ours. Field lines sprout from empty space, and a neutral atom can be felt from outside.
  • B is in good standing but made of planes: a current loop's field falls as 1/r³, and a charge in a magnet turns in two planes at once.

ATOM⁴ · the position

  • The official position on this universe: four dimensions of space, with the force between charges pinned at 1/r, since Gauss's law in 4D leaves atoms no ground state.
  • Twelve chapters of working: the force, light, motion and spin, hydrogen, the periodic table, shapes, darbon, the forces between molecules, Xater, which molecule is the water, how hard all of this is to search, and gases.
  • New: gases. 4D's noble gases are held by the crowd, not their neighbours. A throttle cools them to tens of thousands of kelvin, and they condense thousands of kelvin hotter than their wells suggest.

Lumen⁴ · light

  • Light in four dimensions beside our own: 1/r³ falloff, a flash with a negative wake, a round hole's first dark ring at 1.43 λ/D, and radiation as T⁵.
  • The rainbow cut by your slice, and drawn on a flat screen as a conic section.

IRIS⁴ · a rainbow you shape

  • Walk a four-dimensional landscape after rain, in first person, and turn, twist and look into w.
  • The bow on your screen is the conic Lumen⁴ predicts, drawn over the rendered one.

Papers · in preparation

  • First, a periodic table for four dimensions, written to the standard of a physics preprint and defended line by line.
  • Its sources are being gathered in the open: the literature register.

Games set in this universe

The arcade has games built on the same geometry: KATABASIS, a cave walked in 4D; PLATEAU, flight through a 4D foam; Foam⁴, that foam one slice at a time; and Anakata, Anabasis and Hinton, puzzles you can only solve through w.
