The periodic table of four dimensions

Every element of the 4D universe up to 78, as ATOM⁴'s solver finds it: rows of 2, 10, 10, 28 and 28, with noble gases at 2, 12, 22, 50 and 78. An element that does what one of ours does takes our name with its first letter moved on: iydrogen, darbon, pxygen. The rest do nothing ours does, and they're new.

Ours, for comparison

Our table to element 54, in its usual 18 columns. Point at either table to light up the other's counterpart. Every element of ours has a counterpart in 4D, but 4D's blocks are longer: its p block holds 8 places to our 6 and its d block 18 to our 10. The extra places are the new elements.

How the shells fill

The diagram from school: the subshells in a grid, with n going down and s, p, d, f going across. You fill along each arrow, one diagonal of n + l after another. The diagonals are the same in both worlds. The solver finds 4D's atoms filling in exactly our order, 1s 2s 2p 3s 3p 4s 3d 4p 5s 4d 5p, all the way to 78. What changes is how much each box holds: 2(2l + 1) in ours, 2(l + 1)² in 4D. So s holds 2 in both, p holds 8 instead of 6, d 18 instead of 10, and f 32 instead of 14. The same order then closes the rows at 2, 12, 22, 50 and 78 instead of 2, 10, 18, 36 and 54. Each box gives the elements that fill it. The boxes fill up to the element you point at, and ours to its counterpart. Past element 78 the 4D boxes are dashed: there they follow the rule, not the solver.

How the names are given

By place, the way our groups work. Column 1 holds the alkali metals and column 2 the alkaline earths. In the p and d blocks, the elements before the half-full one count from the block's left edge: our boron is the first p element, and scandium, titanium, vanadium and chromium are the first four d. The half-full one answers to ours: carbon holds half of the 8-electron s + p shell, and darbon half of 4D's 10. The ones after it count back from the full shell: nitrogen is three short of a noble gas, so 4D's element three short is oitrogen.

Our carbon is the one place this can't be done twice. It is both fourth from the start of its row and four short of the end. In 4D's longer rows those are two different elements, 6 and 8, on either side of darbon, and neither answers to anything of ours. Element 8 is the one whose hydride came out flat, with no dipole (Which water). The 4D d block has eight such places in each of its two rows, where it holds 18 electrons to our 10. In all, 24 of the 78 are new.

Symbols follow the chapters where they already use one: H for iydrogen, D for darbon, Px for pxygen, Mi for mithium. Otherwise a symbol is our symbol with its first letter moved on, or else the new name's first letter and one of its others, never one of our 118. The new elements have no names yet.
